Galaxy Lettering Tutorial Using Brush Pens
If you are a lettering lover whether you practice it or simply admire the artwork, it is likely that you have come across a design that gives you a sense of staring into the night sky and wondered how to make this effect. I made this step by step tutorial that would teach you everything you need to create the “Galaxy Effect” in your lettering.
Materials
Canson XL Watercolor Paper
Tombow Dual Brush Pen Gray (N95)
Tombow Dual Brush Pen Galaxy Palette
Sakura Gelly Roll Pen White 08
Sakura Pigma Micron Pen .10 mm
Arteza Detail Paint Brushes | 2/0 Spot
Water
In case you have other materials, you can use them but keep in mind that the markers must be water-based. The important thing is that you practice and can perform each of the steps.
STEP 1: Base Lettering
We will start by tracing on the watercolor paper the word or phrase that you have previously chosen, using a gray marker (preferably a light gray) .
STEP 2: Colors
Choose the color color combo you prefer to add on the base lettering, in my case I used references N25, 443, 555 and 755 from Tombow Dual Brush Pen Galaxy Set. Apply a little bit of each color in each letter until you fill them all; The amount depends on your taste and the effect you want to achieve. One suggestion I have is that you use the darkest colors in small quantities so all tones can be seen.
STEP 3: Brush and Water
Using a fine detail brush, we will apply water to each and every one of the letters. We will blend all the colors and create a unique pattern, leave time for the design to dry.
STEP 4: Outline
Make sure that all the letters are dry. We will use a black pen to make the outline or contour to add definition to the letter. You can also add shadows.
STEP 5: Details
Lastly, use a white gel pen start or white ink to make points inside the letters, some larger than others to recreate the idea of the stars in the galaxy.
